Founder & Chief Strategist
La’Markus R. Cook, Ed.D. is the Founder and Chief Strategist of The Elimu Initiative, a community-centered educational ecosystem dedicated to advancing culturally grounded learning, leadership development, and community advocacy.
Through ELIMU, Dr. Cook leads the design of educational programs, professional learning, and community initiatives that support children, families, educators, organizations, and institutions. His work centers culturally relevant and faith-informed approaches to education that strengthen identity, build academic foundations, and promote long-term community well-being—particularly within Black and historically underserved communities.
Dr. Cook brings experience across faith-based institutions, community organizations, and educational settings, with a focus on curriculum development, educator support, and intergenerational learning. His leadership is guided by the belief that education should be accessible, affirming, and responsive to the lived realities of the communities it serves.
He holds a Doctor of Education in Curriculum, Teaching, Learning, and Leadership, with research examining the role of the Black church as an educational institution. An ordained Baptist minister, Dr. Cook was ordained at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia and remains committed to servant leadership, public engagement, and education that honors culture, dignity, and purpose.
